We have been driving and traveling in an RV for 5 years and have driven over 50,000 miles. Are we experts – no. Can we learn new things – yes.
We took delivery of a new 40 ft diesel motorhome less than two weeks ago. Although we feel competent driving and traveling in an RV, we were somewhat anxious about driving a significantly longer motorhome, in addition to the additional factors of diesel operations.?? Based on these factors, we felt in would be helpful to take the RV driving school to review and improve our techniques as well as to learn new techniques and as an opportunity to identify bad habits and to eliminate those habits.
Our instructor, Jimmy Johnson, was a knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly person to deal with. I would call Jimmy’s method as coaching and teaching at the same time. His knowledge and insight and teaching method made it easy to understand and apply techniques and methods for better driving, and observing and “seeing” potential risk areas. We both think driving with Jimmy helped improve our driving. Jimmy was always open to answering any question that we had, clearly explaining his answers, and pointing out new cues that we can use for driving and maneuvering the motorhome. We were both concerned about being able to maneuver our new motorhome into our driveway and into our storage facility. Jimmy was extremely helpful in laying out a simulated driveway and storage slot and spent a lot of time helping us find cues and keys to be able to maneuver the new RV into either our driveway or storage slot. We are now confident that we can safely maneuver the RV into and out of tight areas.
Our takeaway from the RV driving school is that we feel like we have knowledge and techniques to improve our driving skills and operate the motorhome safely in constrained spaces.
We truly enjoyed our lessons with Jimmy and say thank you for an excellent learning experience. Jimmy is an excellent instructor as well as being just a great person to be around. We think we have made a new friend.
We highly recommend Jimmy Johnson as an RV driving school instructor.
